How to Make Sticky Rice

This post will show you how to make Thai sticky rice. This is how Thai or Laotian people make the sticky rice. I heard that you can make one in the microwave too. I haven't tried it yet, but I'll let you know if it works the same like this one so you don't have to buy all of this stuff.

 Things you need;
  • Thai bamboo basket
  • Thai sticky rice cooking pot
  •  lid for the bamboo basket
  • 4 cups Thai sticky rice
  •  water
 1. Soak the sticky rice in the water. You need the water level above the rice around 3 inches. Soak it at least 6 hours, but if you don't have much time you can use warm water to soak the rice for a couple hours.

 2. Rinse 5 cups of water into the pot.

3. Put the soaked rice into bamboo basket. Then put the basket on top of the pot.

 4. cover the pot with lid. If you don't have the same lid I have, you can use whatever lid or plate you have to cover the basket as long as it fit and cover the whole opening area of the basket. Use the highest heat to boil. Boil 15-20 minutes.

5. Flip the rice over and continue cooking for 5 minutes.

6. When the rice is done, remove it from the basket. You can put the rice in the container, but make sure you put the lid on it otherwise you sticky rice would dry out.

Thai Sticky Rice and Mango

A lot of people have been asking me for this Thai dessert recipe so I finally post it here. It's yummy, but it's so easy to cook at home.I took a lot of pictures of every detail so you guys would understand easily.Have fun making this delicious sweet sticky rice and mango:)PS. I apologize for my broken English.

 Cooking time: 30 minutes
 Serves 5-8

Ingredients:

Sweet Sticky Rice Part
  • 4 cup Thai sticky rice
  • 1 cans (19 fl oz) coconut milk
  • 1 1/2 or 2 cups sugar
  • 2-3 mangoes
 Coconut Milk Topping Sauce Part
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2-3 Tbsp sugar (less or more depends on you)
  • 1 Tbsp corn starch or rice flour
  • 1/2 cup water

Method
  1.  Cooking sticky rice. (You can check on my other post how to make sticky rice)

 2. Pouring 19 fl oz can coconut milk into pot (or big bowl) and add 1 1/2 or 2 cup sugar in it. You can add more sugar or less depends on how much you want for the sweetness. Then add 1/4 teaspoon salt and mix them together.

3.  After the sticky rice is done, put it in the big pot that has coconut milk in it. Mix them together and let it sit for 5 minutes. (let the hot sticky rice soak up sweet coconut milk juice)

 Making coconut milk topping sauce
 4. Pour the smaller can of coconut milk (14 fl oz) into a small pot.

5. In another bowl ( I use the empty coconut milk can), add1 Tbsp corn starch, 2-3 Tbsp sugar and 1/2 cup of water in it. Mix them well.  Then add the mixture into the small pot with the coconut milk and cook ( stir often to prevent cornstarch forming crumbs) until it boil or thicken. Remove from the stove.

 6. Peel mangoes and cut them the way you want. Pour the sauce on the top. Ready to be served!!!
